Today Mrs. Vosler warmly greeted me when I entered the studio. She informed me that the students were on a lunch break at the time and that only two students were present due to homework and sicknesses.  Mrs. Vosler asked if I would be able to model for the students today and I told her I would.  She explained to me how the students really wanted to draw me and would greatly appreciate it. After I got all my research materials ready I asked her if I could interview the two students when they were done with their lunch and she approved.  The interviews were better than before and I was able to ask other questions that came to mind.

Once the interviews were concluded I took my place on the stage with the bright lights and black backdrop, which was later changed to a maroon color.  The students and Mrs. Vosler started rearranging their easels in order to get a good position to see me and their easel as they practice their sighting technique. I am currently working on an updated self-portrait. I started the drawing process back in June of 2015 and have been working on the painting off and on. My goal is to be completed before the end of February and start working on another portrait where I can use a different painting process I learned from Charles Miano at Southern Atelier.

The research at Vosler Young Artists Studio is progressing very well.  Today I was able to interview one of the two students that were present and Mrs. Vosler at the end of class.  I was able to see the engagement students have with their work and how they focus on seeing and drawing the three-dimensional sculpted cast.

As music plays in the background the students rarely talk as they work because they are so focused on what they are doing. Mrs. Vosler talks to the students one on one to help them in areas she sees they can improve on in their drawing.  “Drop darker value into the dark shadow and add a light shape” Mrs. Vosler stated to Oliver after she explained the lights and shadows that are seen on the cast.  Mrs. Vosler came over to where I was standing to tell me more about the school and how it functions.  She told me that she sends out a supply list to the parents, that’s reasonable, and keeps the supplies in the studio.  Her method to make sure parents di...

I enjoyed another visit at Vosler's Studio. When I arrived the students were still at lunch in Mrs. Vosler's studio and Mrs. Vosler greeted me in the Young Artists' Studio. She explained to me what the students were currently working on for the upcoming art opening. Which was an activity book for kids to color in and learn about value. They plan to sell it at the art opening to help fund necessities for the studio.
